The tuesday's match
between the IPL 2012 leader team Delhi Daredevils and a good team that
is not doing quiet well presently Kings 11 Punjab at the Ferozshah
Kotla stadium, New Delhi didn't turned out to be a high scoring game
as it did last year but still the game went quite well as Delhi, the home
team were victorious in the end. I bought the tickets for the match
some 2-3 weeks before and I was lucky that I got the tickets because
just few days after I bought the ticket, the tickets were sold out.
And sold out match means jam packed stadium and Wooooh! The stadium
was indeed jam packed with not even a good place to stand and watch
the match leave alone good place to sit.
I was out from my
office at 5pm hoping to make it to the stadium by 7pm and get some
good seats to get the good view of the match. Well I made it at the
stadium at about 7:15, not very late though, I was still hoping to
get into the stadium at around 7:30pm and watch the toss. But who
could stop the inevitable. As I was making my way towards my entrance
gate into the stadium, which was still quite far, I came across a
queue which was a long long long queue to just cross the first check
point before entering into the stadium. We were 3 friends. So like
nice disciplined citizens we stood in the queue.
So just 5 minutes in
the queue we realized that if we remain in the queue, we may not be
able to make it on time because the queue was just not moving, it was
just the push from the fellow IPL fans in the queue that was making
the queue move. So we decided to dump the idea of being nice citizens
and came out of the queue and started our way towards the first check
point.
Making your way by
breaking the queue isn't always fruitful. A huge huge rush was waiting for us near the check point. All the impatient IPL fans thought they should not be in the queue. Amidst huge push and pull,
we cleared the first check point. Now we were making our way towards
our entrance gate into the stadium. We had 3 choices of the gates and
as it happens always, we choose the worst gate, or atleast felt like
we did. 3 queues were made into 6 queues by the impatient IPL fans
and when 6 queues merge into 3 you are bound to be pressed very very
tightly. After getting pressed, pushed, pulled for atleast half an
hour, we finally entered the stadium thinking that atleast now we can
enjoy the match.
But this didn't
actually happened. As we entered the stand in the stadium hoping to
get some good seats, but hopes were crushed as we didn't even found a
good place to stand and watch the match. The seats were obviously full
and the crossway stairs were also packed with people. I am quite
tall, some 185 cms, but even with my height I could see only half of
the playing area while standing. So thats how bad the situation was.
So it took us some 15 overs of the first innings to get a decent, if
not good, seat. Our next aim was to get a better seat;).
So what, as people in
our front rows got up one by one, some to buy cold drinks, some to loo, some
with other intentions, one by one we kept moving forward until we got
a good seat ;). But till then Punjab's batting was over and it was
now time for Delhi's batting. Anticipating big sixes and fours from
Sehwag and Warner we ate our cold popcorns. But once again I would
say that didn't happen. Delhi lost 4 early wickets and it was looking
like Delhi could lose the match. But thanks to Mahela Jayawardene and
Naman Ojha, Delhi's innings stabilized and they finally won.
Final scores were:
Punjab- 136/8
Delhi- 140/5
So once again it shows
how crazy people are here for cricket, including me :D. Even though it was not a high
profile game like Delhi vs Mumbai or Delhi vs Bangalore, it still had
full house. People just want good cricket, people just want good
entertainment and they could spend a lot of bucks for that :D.
Good going IPL...;)
